A stable Wi-Fi connection is essential for your camera to deliver smooth live video, timely notifications, and reliable recordings. If you are experiencing issues such as buffering, dropped connections, or poor video quality, the steps below can help you improve your network performance.
Supported Wi-Fi Networks
- All battery-powered cameras support 2.4GHz Wi-Fi only.
- 4G cameras do not support Wi-Fi connections.
- A limited number of indoor cameras and light bulb cameras support both 2.4GHz and 5GHz Wi-Fi.
Before You Begin
Before adding your device to the app:
- Make sure your phone is connected to a stable network.
- If you are unsure about your Wi-Fi frequency, please check with your router provider.
- Ensure that your Wi-Fi name (SSID) and password contain letters and numbers only, without special characters.
- Turn off VPNs or mobile hotspots during setup.
Signs of a Weak Wi-Fi Connection
You may notice your camera’s Wi-Fi signal is not strong enough if you experience:
- Blurry or low-quality video
- Frequent buffering
- Dropped connections
- Delayed or frozen live feeds
How to Improve Wi-Fi Performance
On Your Device
-
Adjust Placement
Place the camera closer to your router during setup (ideally within 2–5 meters).
Avoid obstructions such as thick walls, brick, metal objects, large appliances, or water tanks that may weaken the signal. -
Update Firmware
Make sure your camera’s firmware is always up to date. -
Adjust Video Settings
If video still lags, try lowering the video resolution. In full-screen live view (landscape mode), set the resolution to SD.
On Your Router and Network
-
Restart Your Router
Unplug the router for a few minutes, then plug it back in and power it on again. -
Reduce Network Load
Disconnect devices you are not actively using to free up bandwidth. -
Upgrade Your Router
If your router is outdated or has weak coverage, consider replacing it with a newer model. -
Extend Wi-Fi Coverage
Use a Wi-Fi extender or mesh system to improve range and signal strength. -
Adjust Router Settings
- Enable or adjust Quality of Service (QoS) to prioritize your camera.
- Switch to a less congested wireless channel to reduce interference.
- Re-position router antennas for better coverage.
- For detailed guidance, contact your router provider.
-
Review Your Internet Plan
If your internet speed is low, or if many devices are connected at the same time, upgrading your plan may improve performance.
Additional Tips
- During setup, keep the camera and router within close range.
- If the first attempt fails, reset the camera and try again.
- Avoid connecting through public or shared Wi-Fi networks.
