Keeping your camera’s firmware up to date ensures the best performance, enhanced stability, and access to new features. If you’re unable to update your camera firmware, the issue is usually related to power, network connectivity, or possible hardware issue. Follow the steps below to find out what’s preventing the update and how to resolve it.
Before You Begin
To help ensure a successful update:
- Plug-in cameras: Keep the power cable connected until the update is complete.
- Battery-powered cameras: Charge the battery to at least 50%, or keep the camera connected to power.
-
All cameras:
- Do not turn off the camera.
- Do not press the reset button (reset hole / P button / P hole) during the update.
Check Your Network Connection
A weak or unstable network—Wi-Fi or cellular—may interrupt firmware download or installation.
If you're using a Wi-Fi camera
- Move the camera closer to your router.
- Ensure you’re using a 2.4 GHz Wi-Fi network.
- Check whether the camera frequently goes offline in the app.
If you're using a 4G camera
- Make sure the camera has a strong cellular signal.
- Confirm your data plan is active and not exhausted.
- Avoid placing the camera in locations with poor coverage (basements, metal structures, or heavily shielded areas).
Check the Camera’s Power Status
Insufficient or unstable power may stop the update from completing.
What to check
- Confirm your camera has enough battery or is properly plugged in.
- If the device was exposed to extreme temperatures, allow it to return to room temperature before attempting the update.
Restart the Vico Nature App
Temporary software issues may interrupt the update process.
Try this
- Close and reopen the Vico Nature app.
- Then attempt the update again.
Update the Vico Nature App
Older app versions may not support the newest firmware installation process.
What to do
- Install the latest Vico Nature app from the App Store or Google Play.
- Ensure your phone’s operating system is up to date.
Try Again Later
Occasionally, firmware may be temporarily paused or adjusted by our engineering team.
What to do
- Wait for 1–2 hours and attempt the update again.
Possible Hardware Issues
If the update fails repeatedly, the camera may have a hardware-related issue.
Signs include
- The camera cannot power on
- The reset button is unresponsive
- LEDs blink abnormally
- The camera continuously reboots
- Updates fail across multiple networks or devices
If you observe these behaviors, contact Vico Nature Support for device diagnostics.
