Wondering whether your solar panel is actively charging your camera? This guide walks you through several simple checks to ensure your panel is working as expected — and what to do if it’s not.
Check the Charging Status Icon
When your camera is properly connected to the solar panel and positioned in direct sunlight, you should see a green charging icon on the app interface.
This icon indicates that the solar panel is supplying power to the camera.
Tip: If your battery is already near full capacity, the charging icon may not appear immediately. This is normal and doesn't necessarily mean the panel isn't working.
Verify the Physical Connections
- Ensure the charging cable is firmly plugged into both the solar panel and the camera’s charging port.
- Look for any signs of wear, damage, or corrosion on the cable or connectors.
- If using a weatherproof cable, confirm that all seals are tightly secured to prevent moisture entry.
Gently unplug and reconnect both ends to rule out any loose connections.
Confirm Panel Placement and Sunlight Exposure
To operate efficiently, your solar panel must receive at least 5–6 hours of direct sunlight each day.
- Make sure there are no obstructions such as leaves, branches, dust, or snow.
- Angle the panel toward the sun — typically south-facing at 30–45° for users in the Northern Hemisphere.
- Avoid installing the panel behind glass, as this may reduce charging efficiency.
For best results, clean the panel surface regularly with a soft, dry cloth.
Consider Environmental Conditions
Solar charging efficiency naturally varies with weather and sunlight availability:
- Charging may pause or slow down on cloudy, rainy, or snowy days — this is expected.
- Monitor your battery level over several sunny days to determine if the panel is maintaining the charge.
Important Charging Behavior Notes
- The solar panel is designed for trickle charging, helping maintain battery level — not to charge it quickly from 0% to 100%.
- We recommend fully charging your camera using a 5V/1.5A power adapter before connecting it to the solar panel.
- If your camera is frequently recording or live streaming, it may consume power faster than the solar panel can replenish.
What to Do If You Don’t See the Charging Icon
If the charging icon doesn't appear in the app, try the following steps:
- Reconnect the cable: Unplug and securely reinsert both ends of the cable.
- Adjust placement: Move the solar panel to ensure it's receiving direct sunlight throughout the day.
- Clean the panel: Remove any dust or obstructions from the surface.
- Try a wall charger: Plug your camera into a regular wall adapter to confirm that it charges normally.
