Why do I have many cloud recordings with no visible movement?
Don’t worry—your camera isn’t malfunctioning. This usually happens due to how the PIR motion sensor works.
For Battery Cameras:
These use a PIR (Passive Infrared) sensor to detect motion. It doesn’t “see” objects move like a human would—it detects changes in infrared energy (heat) in the environment.
For Plug-in Cameras:
These detect any visual change in the camera’s view, such as a person walking by or shifting light and shadows.
Possible Causes:
Motion detection can be triggered not only by a person or pet, but also by:
- Shadows or sudden light changes
- Hot air blowing from vents or AC units
- Moving trees, leaves, or plants swaying in the wind
- Insects or small animals passing close to the lens
These are commonly called false triggers.
How to Reduce False Motion Alerts
1. Reposition the Camera
- Avoid placing the camera near moving trees, hanging plants, or reflective surfaces.
- Keep the camera away from heat sources such as:
- Air vents
- AC units
- Heaters or microwave ovens
2. Adjust Motion Detection Sensitivity
- Go to: Camera Settings > Motion Detection > Detection Sensitivity
- Set the sensitivity to Low or Medium
- Lower sensitivity reduces the sensor’s range, which can help filter out small or irrelevant motion triggers
3. Enable “Cool Down Time” (If Supported)
- Some camera models include a Cool Down Time feature, which pauses motion detection for a set interval after each recording.
- This helps avoid back-to-back recordings caused by continuous or repetitive motion.
How to enable Cool Down Time:
- Go to: Camera Settings > Motion Detection > Cool Down Time
- Turn it on and select your preferred interval (e.g., 30s, 1 min, etc.)
Note: Disabling Cool Down Time is a paid feature.
