Why isn't my camera detecting movement at night?
There are several reasons why your camera may not be catching movement at night, even though it works fine during the day:
Check Sleep Mode Settings
Kindly check if the camera is in sleep status when at night. Go to:
- Enter "Camera Settings"
- Choose "Motion Detection"
- Find "Sleep" settings to verify no sleep schedule is enabled
If you see sleep mode is active, disable it or adjust the schedule.
Verify Motion Detection Sensitivity
Night detection requires higher sensitivity settings. Go to:
- Enter "Camera Setting"
- Choose "Motion Detection"
- Set "Detection Sensitivity" and set it to High
The PIR sensor needs maximum sensitivity to detect movement in low-light conditions.
Check Network Connection
A weak network can prevent motion events from being uploaded or notifications from being sent.
Please check:
- WiFi signal strength shown in the app
- Whether other devices on the same network are working normally
- Restart the router if the connection is unstable
If the WiFi “bars” in the app show low strength, consider moving the camera or router closer.
Test Camera Response at Night
Walk in front of the camera at night and wave your hands for about 20 seconds. Check if:
- The camera's blue indicator light turns on
- Motion is recorded in your app's library
- You receive notifications
If none of these occur, the camera may have a hardware issue.
Ensure Adequate Power and Connection
- Verify the camera has sufficient battery power (blue indicator light when on)
- Confirm a strong WiFi signal strength in the app
- Night detection is more power-intensive, so a low battery can affect performance
Check Camera Positioning
The PIR motion sensor works best when:
- The camera is mounted 7 feet high, angled 10-15 degrees downward
- Movement crosses the camera's field of view rather than moving directly toward/away from it
- The detection range is typically 5-20 feet from the camera
Reboot the Camera
If settings are correct but night detection still fails:
Battery Cameras
- Press the reset button (3–5 seconds) until you hear the startup sound
- Reconnect the camera in the app
Plug-in Cameras
- Press the reset button or unplug and replug the power
- When you hear the pairing sound, open the app and add the device
