Why is my camera missing motion events?
If your camera is missing motion events, it may be due to several factors. Below are the most common reasons and how you can fix them.
1. Weak or Unstable Wi-Fi Connection
If your camera has a poor internet connection, it may fail to record or upload motion events to the cloud. This can result in missing footage in the app's Library.
What to do:
- Make sure the camera is connected to a strong and stable Wi-Fi network.
- Try restarting your router and modem.
- Move the camera closer to your router.
- Avoid placing the camera near thick walls, metal appliances, or large furniture that may block Wi-Fi signals.
2. Camera Field of View Is Too Limited
If motion happens outside the camera’s view, it won’t be detected. Poor camera placement or obstructions can also block the sensor.
What to do:
- Ensure the camera is positioned to cover the area where motion is expected.
- Motion detection works best when movement crosses the camera's field of view, rather than moving directly toward or away from it.
3. Improper Installation
An incorrect camera height or angle may cause it to miss motion events.
What to do:
- Mount the camera about 7 feet (2.1 meters) high, angled downward at 10°–15°.
- The motion sensor works best for objects moving within 5 to 20 feet (1.5 to 6 meters) from the camera.
- Do not place the camera behind a window or glass, as motion detection will not work through these surfaces.
4. Low Motion Detection Sensitivity
If sensitivity is set too low, the camera may not detect smaller or distant movements.
What to do:
- Go to: Camera Settings > Motion Detection > Detection Sensitivity
- Set it to High for best performance. This increases the detection range and area.
5. Cool Down Time Feature Enabled
When Cool Down Time is active, the camera pauses motion detection for a set interval after recording a motion event. This can save battery, but also causes some events to be missed.
What to do:
- If you want to record every event, consider turning off Cool Down Time.
- Alternatively, reduce the interval duration.
- Note: Disabled Cool Down Time settings are part of a paid feature.
6. Motion Detection Is Disabled During Live View
While you're watching the live feed, the camera does not detect or record motion, and no notifications will be sent.
Tip: If you'd like to save a live feed, tap the Record button during live view to save the video directly to your phone’s album.
