What is an Alarm Permit?
An alarm permit is a license or registration required by many cities and counties for operating security alarm systems. These permits help local authorities:
- Reduce false alarm calls to emergency services
- Maintain accurate records of alarm system locations
- Contact property owners when alarms are triggered
- Manage emergency response resources effectively
Note: Not all locations require alarm permits. Requirements vary by jurisdiction, so it's important to check with your local authorities.
How to Check if You Need a Permit
To determine if your location requires an alarm permit:
- Search online for "alarm permit application" along with your city or county name
- Contact your local police department or emergency services
- Check your municipality's official website for alarm ordinances
Managing Your Alarm Permit in the App
If your location requires an alarm permit, you can store your permit information in the app for easy reference:
- Open the app and tap User
- Select Awareness Protection Plan
- Tap My Service
- Scroll down to the Resources section
- Tap Alarm Permit
- Enter your permit details in the settings page
What Information to Include
When setting up your alarm permit information, you may need:
- Permit number: Enter the permit number issued by your local authority
- Expiration date (if applicable): Add the expiration date if your permit has one
Note: As mentioned in the app, if you don't receive a permit number or expiration date from your local authority, you can leave these fields blank. We recommend obtaining your permit during the 7-day practice mode for optimal setup.
Important Considerations
- Keep your permit information current, especially if you move or change your contact details
- Some permits require annual renewal - check your local requirements
- Always comply with local laws and regulations regarding alarm systems
- Contact your alarm monitoring company to ensure they have your current permit information
