What can I do remotely when my camera shows offline?
When your camera goes offline and you're away from home, there are several remote troubleshooting options available through the phone app:
Immediate Remote Actions:
- Tap the Reconnect button on the homepage live window in your app
- Refresh the device list by pulling down the page on the home screen of the app
- Wait for automatic reconnection - cameras may come back online automatically if the offline status was due to a temporary network issue
Limited Physical Assistance Options:
If you have someone available at the camera location, they can:
- Wave their hand in front of the camera to trigger motion detection, which may bring it back online
- Press and hold the power button on the battery camera to manually trigger reconnection
- Power cycle the plug-in camera by unplugging and re-plugging the power source
What remote recovery options are NOT available?
Unfortunately, there are significant limitations for remote camera recovery:
- Remote reboot/restart - This feature is not supported and must be done physically at the camera location
- Remote power on - Cannot be done through the app
- WiFi network changes - Cannot be changed remotely; requires physical access to the camera
When do I need physical access to the camera?
You'll need someone to physically access the camera when:
- The camera has been offline for an extended period and doesn't respond to the Reconnect button
- The camera requires a complete reset or re-adding to the app
- WiFi network settings need to be changed
- The camera needs to be powered on after being completely turned off
What should I do if remote options don't work?
If the remote troubleshooting steps don't resolve the issue:
- Ask someone at the location to visit the camera and either press the power button or wave their hand in front of it
- Wait for your return, if the camera has been offline for too long, it may require re-adding to the app, which must be done in person
- Check if other devices on the same network are working properly to rule out broader network issues
Important Note:
The camera's power-saving mechanism prevents it from continuously trying to reconnect, which is why remote recovery options are limited. This is designed to preserve battery life but means most troubleshooting requires physical access to the device.
