If your camera video appears with incorrect or distorted colors, such as a strong purple or pink tint, a green overlay, or completely faded tones, there may be an issue with your device's infrared filter, lighting, or firmware. Here's how to troubleshoot and restore normal color performance.
Common Causes
- Infrared filter malfunction: The most common reason for a pink or purple tint is the infrared (IR) cut filter getting stuck. This filter normally switches automatically between day and night modes to adjust to lighting conditions.
- Lighting interference: Bright reflective surfaces, strong backlighting, or rapid lighting changes can affect the sensor’s ability to balance colors.
- Firmware issues: Outdated firmware may result in incorrect color processing.
How to Fix It
Test the infrared filter
- Cover and uncover the camera lens several times in a low-light environment
- Listen for a faint "click" sound — this indicates the IR cut filter is switching
- If there's no sound or the image remains pink/purple, the filter may be stuck
Reboot the Camera
- For battery-powered cameras: Use the included pin to gently press the P-hole (reset hole/P button/reset button) for 1–2 seconds.
- For plug-in cameras: Unplug the power adapter, wait a few seconds, and then plug it back in to reboot the device.
Update the firmware
- Go to Camera Settings → ">" → Firmware Update in the app
- Install the latest firmware version if available
Clean the lens
- Use a clean, dry microfiber cloth
- Gently wipe the lens to remove dust, smudges, or moisture buildup
Reposition the camera
- Avoid placing the camera near windows or shiny surfaces
- Reposition it to reduce exposure to strong light sources or reflections
